February 7: Argylle

Don’t forget to RSVP for this film event! Wednesday, February 7, we’ll be seeing the film Argylle at Longmont’s Regal Village at The Peaks. Get your ticket, small popcorn, small drink, and one candy item on us, all while seeing a great film. See Becky’s email for the RSVP form if you haven’t already.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Conferences will be held Monday and Tuesday, February 12 and 13, between 3:00 and 7:00 pm. Follow this link to sign up to chat with your/your student’s mentor. NOTE: If your mentor is Becky or Cindy, you will need to schedule an appointment directly with them during school hours.

Presidents’ Day

We have a long weekend coming up! All St. Vrain Valley schools will be closed Friday, February 16 and Monday, February 19. FLVS will also be closed on Monday, so plan ahead. You will need 16 assignments completed both weeks.

Assignment Completion

Speaking of completing assignments . . . if you are behind in Test Prep, you will not be allowed to take Fridays off even if you have your 20 regular assignments completed. You must be current with your Test Prep work in order to finish the week early.

Engineering Opportunity

CU Boulder College of Engineering & Applied Science is again hosting a summer program called EngiNearMe for rising seniors. This week-long residential program is designed to introduce students to the field of engineering and talk through the basics of applying to college. It is completely free to students, and their focus has been on exposing first generation college students to this field. This year’s event will occur from June 16 – 22. Girls Who Code

Ready to shape your future and join an empowering sisterhood? Become a coder this summer with Girls Who Code!

Curious to create your own computer games? In our two-week Summer Immersion Program, you’ll learn how to design your own games using p5.js, a JavaScript library for creative coding. Classes are hosted by industry-leading companies like MetLife, Bank of America, Logitech, and Synchrony. Dates: June 14-28, July 8-19, and July 29-August 9. This is for current 9th-11th grade girls and non-binary students with beginner or intermediate coding experience. Apply for a $300 grant and laptop and hot spot access.

The six-week Self-Paced Program offers tracks in Web Development, Cybersecurity and Data Science + AI. From July 1 through August 9, you get to decide how and when to build your coding skills, and you can always ask questions in the Discord server or optional Student Hours. This is for current 9th-12th grade girls and non-binary students with beginner to advanced coding experience.

Bright Futures Program

Bright Futures is a Weld County, Colorado workforce initiative designed to strengthen the vitality of the Weld County community. By nurturing and supporting the next generation with tuition assistance in the form of money for post-secondary education or training certification, Bright Futures is building a strong foundation for a stable economy.

Through the Bright Futures Program, students can receive one of the following:

• Up to $3,500 per year or $14,000 over eight semesters, if they attend a school or program based in Weld County. Training options can include two year, four year, or certificate/training programs.
• Up to $2,000 per year or $8,000 over eight semesters to attend a school or program outside of Weld County or in any bordering state (Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona or Utah).

To qualify, students must live in Weld County their senior year plus one other year during their high school career. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on May 15 for the 2024 school year. There is additional information about the scholarship on this Bright Futures Informational Flyer.
